Have you read any good books lately? This is a question often raised by those who desire good reading material. Such material is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain in this age of decreasing moral and literary standards.
I want, however, to put the question in a slightly different form - have you read "THE BOOK" recently? What book? The Bible, of course.
As Sir Walter Scott lay dying he made the request:"Bring me the book." "What book?" his friends enquired."There is but one book," he replied," The Bible."
How much do you value your Bible? Have you ever made the Bible the rule and guide of your life?
When I read the Bible I see myself reflected in the mirror of it's pages. What I see of the natural man is not complimentary."From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it but wounds and bruises and putrefying sores" (Isaiah 1v6).
The fact that we are lost and guilty sinners is clearly written on every page. The Bible's record of the heart and life of man is reliable and true. Therefore the truth that I am a sinner in need of repentance, forgiveness and salvation must be impressed upon my heart.
When I read the Bible I see Christ revealed in all His compassion and love for sinners. Our Lord Jesus Christ is seen to be the answer to this world's problems.
The Cross work of Christ stands out in resplendent glory in the pages of the Book. "Christ died for the ungodly" (Romans 5v6), is the epitome of the Gospel. The Bible presents a loving, dying substitute for our sins."He suffered, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God."
When I read the Bible, I see a reflection of the glory that shall be hereafter - of the eternal glory reserved for them that are truly His. That glory can only be yours and mine if we are united by faith to Jesus Christ as our own and personal Saviour.
The Bible therefore would urge you to embrace Christ personally and rest your soul upon His word and blood atonement for sinners at Calvary. Only through Christ can we escape the eternal darkness of a lost eternity and enter the glories of the eternal home.
Read the Bible today - it is the key to your eternal destiny. Men do not reject the Bible because it contradicts itself, but because it contradicts them.
